Our Leadership

While we praise God for His constant faithfulness in providing us with meeting locations, obtaining buildings is easier and less important than raising up loving, gifted, mature shepherds of God’s people. As the Apostle Paul told the Ephesian pastors, “Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which He bought with His own blood.” (Acts 20:28) God has been faithful to provide the shepherds we have needed when we needed them.

Kurt Jurgensmeier In 1994 Kurt was recognized as a pastor of the new church plant. He also worked as a self-employed consultant advising businesses on government safety regulations. Thankfully, by 1998 the church had grown in size and was able to pay Pastor Kurt a salary, at which time he sold his business. Kurt and Brenda have five children between 21 and 10 years-old and live just across the parking lot from the ministry center.

Pete Grose Pete Grose was recognized as a Pastor in 1998. Pastors Pete and Kurt have been a team “sacrificially serving the King with their best friends” for more than 20 years. They not only talk about Authentic Christianity, but by God’s great grace they have lived it. Pete works fulltime in management at Rockwell Collins and is married to Raylene. The youngest of their six children is 17; the oldest 23.

Ray Damaso Pastor Ray Damaso met Kurt and Pete as a student at the University of Iowa. Ray and is wife Shari were among those who transplanted from Iowa City to Cedar Rapids in 1994. For many years Ray and Shari served as deacons at New Life. For the last 15 years, Ray has led the worship ministry Sunday services. He was recognized as a pastor in 2009. Ray manages a team at Rockwell Collins and has two children, age 10 and 7.

Brian Hagerman Brian Hagerman and his wife Michelle joined New Life in 2004 after faithfully serving another church family for many years. Because of Brian’s obvious character, commitment to Christ, love for people, and like-mindedness with the “heart” of New Life, he was recognized as a deacon in 2008 and a pastor in 2009. Brian manages local training for a large life insurance company and has two children, age 13 and 10.

Because a church will never be more united, loving, and committed to serving one another than its pastors, we ask all of those at New Life to continue to hold them up in prayer.
