Collect Coats for Christ.................................................................. ending soon

Collect new and gently used coats from your neighborhood and donate them to Mission of Hope.  Drop of points include 89.1 The Spirit Studio at 1450 Boyson Road, Lemstone Parable Store off Collins Road, and Family Christian Store on 1st Avenue NE.  Contact 89.1 The Spirit (294-8910) or Mission of Hope (362-5559) with any questions.

 

Impact Area Youth.................................................................. now through May

The Boys and Girls Club has a variety of opportunities to impact the lives of children through after school activities ranging from weekly one-on-one tutoring to photography club to gym helper to playing board games. The Club was displaced due to flooding and currently has centers open in NE and NW Cedar Rapids. A list of specific needs is located at www.bgccr.org/main_sublinks.asp?id=6&sid=39.

 

Bowl for Kids’ Sake.................................................. January 24 - February 20

Have fun and help Big Brothers/Big Sisters raise funds used to develop mentoring relationships with children. Just raise pledges (minimum $70/adult, $40/child) and bowl! Visit www.beaBigCR.org for details and contact info.

 

Pot Grace Cleanup........................................................ February 1 or March 1

Each month after our all-church pot grace we need 3 teams (2-3 people) to get the fellowship hall and kitchen ready for the week.  Tasks include: wiping down tables; putting away extra tables & chairs; washing dishes; wiping down counters; taking out garbage; and vacuuming fellowship hall.  Sign up on the bulletin board next to the kitchen serving window.

 

Cleaning, Cooking, Organizing.................................................. ongoing need

Mission of Hope (1st Avenue SE, Cedar Rapids) is looking for volunteers to work any day Tuesday thru Saturday between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Primary needs are cleaning, sorting & organizing food & donations and cooking.  Volunteers should be around age 12 or older.  They also need volunteers to prepare home cooked lunches for 100 people on Tuesdays thru Fridays. Please call the Mission at 362-5559 and talk to a staff person for schedule & availability.

 

Moving Helpers.............................................................................. ongoing need

Use your vehicle and strength to assist women and children living at the Madge Phillips Center move their belongings into their new homes when they depart from shelter.  After signing up you would be contacted on an as-needed basis.  Call 365-1458 ext. 121 or print a volunteer application at www.waypointservices.org under the Volunteer tab.
